Koko Dairy Free.

Until recently, Koko Dairy Free were hugely overshadowed by the likes of Alpro. Little man has always been a fan of their coconut milk, especially the smaller cartons of strawberry and chocolate flavoured coconut milk, so you can imagine how excited I was when I discovered that Koko Dairy Free were introducing some wonderful new products, including yoghurts!

Koko Dairy Free very kindly sent me out a lovely package containing some of their products and some coupons. The package contained their new coconut based butter alternative, their new coconut oil, low fat, original and chocolate versions of their coconut milk and 2 packs of small strawberry flavoured cartons! I also managed to hunt down the new yoghurt’s at a nearby Morrisons on the same day – I was in Koko heaven.

My preferred oil for cooking is coconut oil because of the nutritional benefits, but I’ve found that some coconut oil’s are too ‘coconutty’. Leaving an after taste that can be off putting with certain dishes. Koko Dairy Free coconut oil has the taste of coconut but without being overpowering.

The new butter alternative is by far my favourite butter alternative in the free from market, it looks and spreads just like a ‘normal’ butter and like the oil, has just a hint of coconut despite being coconut based. I’ve used it in sandwiches, baking, and for frying and I really can’t fault it.

Parents of children with allergies have been crying out for a decent yoghurt alternative for a long time, a great treat when weaning and so easy to pop in a lunchbox, the alternatives we already had although decent enough, all had their faults and didn’t exactly appeal to all tastebuds. We tried out the strawberry flavoured Koko yoghurts, upon opening I was pleasantly surprised, it had a lovely scent and texture, just like a fromage frais. Theo was a little dubious about the flavour at first but soon gobbled up the whole pot and asked for more!

If you follow a dairy, soya and gluten free diet or care for someone who does, be sure to check out Koko’s ever expanding range, you won’t be disappointed.
